I am an avid underwater photographer and videographer, and I am currently the co-director of the New York Underwater Photographic Society. In addition to running the meetings, I have organized and taught at the annual NYUPS underwater photography workshop at Dutch Springs.
I have lectured widely on topics related to diving and imaging. Over the past few years, I have given seminars at Beneath the Sea on underwater photography in challenging conditions, on rebreather diving, on artificial intelligence in underwater photography, and on scuba related ear, nose and throat problems. In addition, I have published a number of articles and photographs, which you can see on this website. I have also published a children's book with my photographs of the sea creatures in the New York City area, check it out here!
I obtained my undergraduate and medical degrees at Yale University. I trained in otolaryngology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, and was a fellow in pediatric otolaryngology in Cincinnati, Ohio under Dr. Robin Cotton. On the attending staff at Mt. Sinai since 1994, I am a clinical professor of both otolaryngology and pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. I am the author of a book and more than sixty articles and chapters in my field, and I have edited two multi-authored textbooks. Click here for my CV.
I have served as the president of the American Bronchoesophagological Association and of the New York Pediatric Society. I have also been an editor for the AMA journal Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, a reviewer for the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology. I have been the chairman of the technology committees of both our national ENT Academy (the AAOHNS) and our national pediatric ENT society (ASPO).
